Plant description
A small, deciduous tree with attractive purple-red spring leaves that gradually darken to maroon in summer before turning bright crimson in autumn. Its palmate leaves with 7 deep lobes emerge in spring followed by small reddish flowers that may produce winged fruit in autumn. ‘Sumi-nagashi’ is a popular choice for small gardens looking for multi-season foliage colour, rounding off the year with an impressive autumn finale. This ornamental Japanese maple prefers neutral to acidic soil.
