Plant description
‘Superba’ is a vigorous, mat-forming semi-evergreen perennial whose leaves create a carpet-like effect beneath the pink flowers, which turn to crimson as they mature. Not to be confused with the similarly named Bistorta officinalis ‘Superba’, East Indian knotweed blooms during the summer and boasts excellent autumn foliage colour. To add vertical interest in the border right through to mid-autumn, it’s best to plant this bistort in bold swathes and give it plenty of space. It’s also worth noting that bees and other insects are attracted to this plant.
